£1,500 raised through pedal power

pedal2014At the end of June 2014, two keen cyclists from Pioneer entered the Hospice at Home's 2014 Coast to Coast bike ride. This is an annual event for the charity and one of their biggest fund raising events of the calendar.

Malcolm Berridge and Simon Gate joined 32 other riders to complete the 140 mile journey from Whitehaven to Tynemouth. It was a hot weekend which made it a fairly gruelling journey.

Between the two of them they raised £1,500 through sponsorship. Mally (left) and Simon (right) are pictured here with their medals.

Orange sausage goes down a treat

CharitySausage smlPioneer was asked by the local Hospice at Home charity if we could support their Go Orange fundraising appeal. The challenge was to develop and sell a meat product with an orange theme.

Duck in orange sauce was too easy so we blended the best locally made marmalade with our own farm assured pork in natural skins to create a Pork & Orange Sausage.

Retail sales in four weeks were around 5,000 sausages, making £424 (£1 per kilo) for the charity. The quirky but innovative recipe proved very popular in some quarters so we have brought it back! Sharon, Graham and Alison are pictured here.

Best specialist food retailer nomination

CumbLife2014awardPioneer was thrilled recently to be selected along with just three other companies as a finalist in the 2014 Cumbria Life Food & Drink awards in the Best Specialist Food Retailer category.

This was voted for both by a panel of expert judges together with nominations by Cumbria Life's readership.

At the awards dinner and presentation at Kendal College on 3rd April, the category winner was revealed as the Cartmel Cheese Company and our congratulations go to them.

Our nomination for this award is recognition for the sterling efforts of our colleagues in all three Pioneer shops (including Erica, Alison, Phil and Sharon pictured here at Rosehill) and our fine range of products. Thanks also to all our customers who voted for us.
