A cheesey visit

Appleby Creamery have provided us with quality, artisan cheeses for many years now and most recently we have seen sales of their brie portions take off.

Our sales team visited the creamery on Wednesday 31st May to gain a greater understanding of the art of cheese-making and to sample some of their fine products.

The creamery is based in the historic, market town of Appleby-in-Westmorland and the team were met by Pete Crouch and Tom Jackson of Appleby Creamery. A tour of the building and an explanation of all the processes which milk has to go through before becoming the different types of cheese was given by both Pete and Tom.

The visit was finished off with the chance to sample a delicious, creamy blue cheese and a stunningly, vintage cheddar. Thank you to all at Appleby Creamery for inviting us along!

Colourful sponsorship …

colour runThis year we are a very proud sponsor of Eden Valley Hospice’s Colour Run. The event takes place at Carlisle Racecourse on Sunday 14th May. The run is a family and fun event, with paint and foam stations throughout the course to ensure that entrants have a colourful time!

Pictured above are just some of the participants taking part on behalf of ‘Team Pioneer’.

Graham Jenkins, our managing director says: “We are obviously very proud to be a sponsor of this year’s Colour Run. We are always keen to support local charities and be involved in community events such as this. Our staff are looking forward to taking part in this fun sporting event and are working hard to raise as much money as possible for this marvellous charity. We’re sure everyone will have a fantastic time!”

Last year the event raised an amazing £62,000 for the local hospice and they hope to beat it this year. For more information visit Eden Valley Hospice's website.

A lot to savour at the Local Food Show

On Thursday 23rd March the very first Local Food Show was held in Carlisle at H&H Bordermart, Rosehill. Bringing together suppliers from across Cumbria, Northumbria and south west Scotland the event was the perfect opportunity for local producers to gather to showcase the fantastic range and quality foods which are available in the area.

local food show websiteWe, of course, produce our very own Lakeland beef, lamb and pork as well as championing products of local suppliers. Our stand showcased a fantastic selection of our butchery products and also other foods such as Claire’s Handmade jams and chutneys, Bruce and Luke’s coffee, Silver & Green olives and much, much more.

The event was well supported by some of the city’s largest suppliers such as McVities and Nestle, but was also a great opportunity for small producers such as Cows & Co artisan cheese makers and Traybakes to promote their wonderful foods. With a high turnout and many visitors to our stand, we feel the first event was a great success!
